AYLESBURY YOUTH ACTION Volunteering for a New Generation
Text Box: Building on the previous Millennium Volunteer Certificates the vAwards provide formal recognition of the time and skills invested by young volunteers aged 14-25. They help young people identify the skills they have gained through their volunteering experience and reflect on the positive impact of their activities on their communities.

vinspired Awards aim to recognise young people’s contribution at every level, whether they’re having a first taste of volunteering or making a long-term regular commitment. As such there are three award levels:

v10
This is the ‘starter’ award and is awarded for completing 10 hours of volunteering.

v50
For young people who achieve 50 voluntary hours. It also asks volunteers to show and understanding of the skills they’ve used and the impact they’ve made.

v100
For a further 50 hours volunteering (100 hours in total) and asks what volunteer have learnt during their volunteering and how their skills have developed. This is currently their final vAward, however in 2012 they are planning on launching a new accredited award which can be achieved once volunteers have completed the v100.

The counting for voluntary hours is cumulative e.g. if you have a v10, you’ll need 40 more hours to get a v50. Have a v50? You’ll need 50 more hours for a v100. Volunteers are asked to set a goal for the awards. If the goal is v100, they can go straight on to apply for that and won’t need to apply for the others. However, if they do this, they won’t get to apply for the v10 or the v50 as the awards are cumulative. Each award can only be done once. Once the awards have been completed volunteers can continue to build their Volunteering Portfolio or move on to the new qualification when it’s released in 2012.
