Taking Action in Our Community -

Youth Volunteering in Aylesbury

April 16th saw Aylesbury Youth Action’s first independent youth event in Kingsbury Square.  It was run by the young people from the Distinctive project and showcased their skills learnt from the workshops from the previous six weeks in dance, drama, music and food.  It celebrated Aylesbury’s diverse history and the roots of the people now living there.  Luckily the weather was good and it made it possible for the young people to chill out on the bean bags and enjoy the sounds supplied by the dj’s including a track that those on the music project composed.

The next phase of the project is all based around art and starts in the summer holidays.

The first activity will involved young people using different media, photography, computer generated graphics, graffiti art, drawing and painting to provide an art installation that will be showcased in the town showing what Aylesbury means to them.  This could involve someone who has influenced you, a figure from the history of Aylesbury, a landmark or a reflection of how you live now.

The second activity will focus on digital photography and editing to create a photo mosaic of Aylesbury’s changing landscape to be displayed in town.

There will also be a photographic/digital media project that will happen early autumn and will involve an interactive installation in conjunction with Black History month to celebrate Aylesbury’s diverse community.  This will involve the public having their photos taken, and then young people creating a photo mosaic to represent ‘the face of Aylesbury’.
